In June 2025, visitor expenditure totalled $52.3 million, down 6.8% year-on-year, with domestic spending declining 6.1% and international spending down 7.7%. This can, in part, be attributed to calendar shifts, with Matariki falling within the ski season this year, unlike 2024 when its pre-ski season timing boosted early-June spend, as well as school holiday date changes.
Queenstown recorded an estimated 488,880 cumulative visitor days. Non-commercial property nights rose 5% to 38,500, while commercial accommodation guest nights mildly declined 2% to 214,000 with occupancy at 55%. Queenstown Airport recorded 89,787 passenger arrivals, up on 4% June 2024.
Visitor experience remains strong compared to the national average but continues to soften, with the rolling 12-month Net Promoter Score (NPS) now at 67, down from a peak of 75 in mid-2024. This trend will be monitored closely over the coming quarters.

Visitor expenditure refers to money spent on tourism-related activities while in Queenstown. DQ uses Marketview visitor spend figures as our expenditure measure. Marketview visitor expenditure is based on visitor in-person card transactions and does not include estimates for cash, online transactions and app based payments, therefore is not fully representitive of total visitor expenditure. Note: this source is not adjusted to account for inflation.

MONTHLY CUMULATIVE VISITOR ESTIMATES
The monthly cumulative visitor estimates represent the total number of daily visitors counted over a month, regardless of whether visitors stay for multiple days. For example, if someone visits for three days, they are counted three times in the cumulative estimate. Note: Vistr are currently investigating issues that may be leading to an overstatement of international visitor counts in recent data (October 2024 onwards) which could be leading to an exaggerated vs prior year increase. The absolute international visitor counts and vs prior year metrics should be interpreted with caution.
