February 2023 overview
February’s destination metrics close out a busy summer period in Queenstown. There were 430k estimated visitor days, with domestic visitors accounting for 60% of them. Tourism-related spending totalled $75m, slightly higher than in February 2019. Domestic visitors made up the largest proportion of expenditure at $32m, followed by Australia at $13m and the United States at $11m.
VISITATION

The cumulative monthly visitor count is a monthly total of unique daily visitors (e.g. a visitor that stays three nights is counted three times). Note this source is experiencing minor irregularities in daily counts which impacted January and February 2023 resulting in a slight under representation of international visitors, this should be resolved and updated soon.

VISITOR EXPENDITURE
Visitor expenditure refers to money spent on tourism-related activities while in Queenstown. DQ uses Worldline Marketview visitor spend figures as our expenditure measure. Worldline Marketview visitor expenditure is based on visitor in-person card transactions and does not include estimates for cash, online transactions and pre-bookings. Note: this source is not adjusted to account for inflation.

The Tourism Sentiment Index (TSI) score is the measure of a destination's ability to generate positive word of mouth. It is an aggregate score derived from the tone of online conversations that relate to visitors’ tourism experiences in a destination.
