Monte Christo Winery

Young Lane

Discover the birthplace of Central Otago wine.

Visit us in our meticulously restored heritage building, which now serves as our cellar door.  Guests are invited to indulge in wine tastings, private educational wine experiences, and tours.  Come learn about the rich history or settle in for an intimate hosted tasting in our Underground Cellar.  Bookings are required for private tastings & tours.

Feeling hungry? Relax in our garden courtyard and enjoy offerings from “Fritzy” our beloved food trailer. Chef Sam and team serve up delicious pizzas, toasted sandwiches & platters to enjoy with a glass of wine.

In addition, our three beautifully appointed guest cottages are a stone’s throw from the cellar door & food trailer. With flexible room arrangements, the cottages offer the perfect retreat for couples, friends, and families alike for up to 10 guests.

Founded in 1864 by Frenchman Jean Désiré Féraud, Monte Christo Winery is the birthplace of Central Otago wine. Settling in the Alexandra Basin, Féraud knew his property had enormous potential for vine growing, but he had no idea of the impact his discovery would have on a celebrated wine-growing region 150 years on.

Today, Stanley Paris and sons Nicholas and Alan, the present custodians of Monte Christo Winery, pay tribute to this rich heritage, striving to produce some of the world's most distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
